Hiking boots/climbing gear - where to shop?

As to gear, well there are some things you really want to try on, so in some cases I'd avoid online shopping. Boots are definitely something you need to try on - and if you get a set that fit well then they'll last for years. You might be able to get something from someone through the grapevine - I've actually got a set that are up for grabs just now but can't imagine they'd fit you unfortunately! - but if not it is worth trying lots on in the shops and buying something decent. If you've got boots then you can usually beg borrow and steal the rest - the advantage of that is you can see what you like, and what you don't. If you went out and bought a pile of kit tomorrow, you'd probably realise pretty quickly a lot of what you bought isn't that good for the job. Hope that helps a bit.

Helpful advice above, thank you! I will go shopping for boots first and foremost then, get the rest later once I know what I really need. Makes sense. And just found out that my work can get me a 30% discount off Berghaus products so that's something.
